On the 29-31 May 2017 we welcome to the "The 2nd International Young Carers Conference" where we will focus on the issues of children as next of kin and young carers.

The registration is still open!

The purpose of the conference is to support society to take responsibility and actualize the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and, in particular, when a child has a family member who is seriously ill or has an addiction or mental illness or experiences bereavement in their family. During the conference, children and youths from EU will take an active part in presentations, interactive workshops and seminars and make suggestions on how to develop the support of children as next of kin and young carers.

Therefore we arrange this conference

In Sweden and the EU, it is estimated that one in ten children provide care, assistance and support to their parents or relatives. More than one in five children have a parent with substance abuse problems, mental or somatic illness or a loved one who dies. The support for these children is small or non-existent and the risk is impending that their situation will affect their opportunities for education, work and a social life. In Europe there is a growing awareness of the children as next of kin and young carers. Therefore, we in Scandinavia have taken the initiative to this conference. We are very pleased that the City of Malmö and Region Skåne, with its extensive activities in the area, are co-organizers of the conference.

Together for the children

Our ambition is that this conference will become a junction where paths can be crossed and collaboration can be strengthened. A meeting place where carers, politicians, staff, professionals, researchers and representatives of civil society organizations from the whole world can meet and learn from each other to maximize the health, well-being, development and education for children as next of kin and young carers.
